Research Notes: Husband - Ragnvald "the Mountain-High" Olafsson King of Vestfold

From Wikipedia - Ragnvald the Mountain-High :

Ragnvald (or Rognvald) "the Mountain-High" Olafsson was a petty king of Vestfold in what is today Norway . He was the son of Olaf Geirstad-Alf , a cousin of Harald Fairhair and the father of Aseda (or Ascrida) Rognvaldsdatter, who married Eystein Ivarsson .

His greatest contribution to posterity was that he asked the skald Ůjˇˇlfr of Hvinir to compose a poem about his ancestry. This poem is known as Ynglingatal and is not only one of the oldest, but also one of the most famous and debated of the Old Norse poems .

Ůjˇˇlfr ended the poem with these lines:

Under the heaven's blue dome, a name
I never knew more true to fame
Than Rognvald bore; whose skilful hand
Could tame the scorners of the land, --
Rognvald, who knew so well to guide
The wild sea-horses through the tide:
The "Mountain-high" was the proud name
By which the king was known to fame.

Research Notes: Wife - Mary Caroline Ollis

From FindaGrave.com:

An Arlene Stancliff remembers (in 1999) that Evert Stancliff, then living in St. Louis, MO, took his mother, Mary Caroline (Ollis) Stancliff to Highland County, IL to visit her "Brown cousins" in 1932.

Callie and George's wedding service was conducted in the home of her parent's home in Mira Valley (then called Mira Creek, Nebraska) eight miles south of Ord, NE on April 1, 1885, conducted by Rev. C. Slack. Official witnesses were Milla (or Willa) C. Brown and James G. Hastings. (Information taken from Callie's bible, now possessed by Callie's grandson Robert C. Stancliff. James Hastings' daughters Jane and Eleanor would, 37 years later, marry Callie's nephew James B. Ollis, William Ollis, respectively. It is difficult to read the first letter of the other witness of Callie's marriage, whether it is Milla or Willa, but their way, I have no record of that person, but it must have been a member of the Brown family to which Callie was related. Several members of the Brown family lived at Mira Valley or nearby Ord and North Loup, NE.)

A so-called "Final Receipt: United States to Arch. Morris," receipt #1996 (Receiver's office, Grand Island, Nebraska, dated Dec. 14, 1883) verifies that Mary C. Ollis of Valley County, Nebraska paid $200.00 (at $1.25 per acre) for 160 acres in Mira Valley of Valley County: SW Qtr of Sec 10 in Twp No. 18 of North, of Range No. 14 West.

Then a "Record of U. S. Patents" document records the granting of the same property by President Chester A. Arthur to Mary C. Ollis of Valley County, Nebraska on October 11, 1884.

Then a Valley County register of deeds (page 321) records the transfer of that same property from Mary C. Stancliff and her husband George W. Stancliff to Thomas J. Nethery on May 5, 1885, for what appears on the copy of the deed to be $400. (It is difficult to read the exact amount. It could be $200 and it could be $500. It is written out, not in numerals, so the first letter is either a F or T -- not sure.) Thomas J. Nethery is the husband of the sister of James Ammiel Ollis's wife. James Ammiel Ollis is the brother of Mary C. Stancliff.

Callie and her husband George are buried beside each other at Mt Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas.

In 1909 Callie was living in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1913 she was living in Texas.

According to Independence city records, Callie is the owner of the 10-space Lot 1688 in which she and her husband are buried, as well as two of their children and a daughter-in-law. Each of their graves are in two spaces; for example Callie's grave is in spaces 1 and 2.
