Alexander Wallace Baillie of Tain 1 2

  • Born: 1813, Nonikiln, Rosskeen, Ross-shire (Ross and Cromarty, Highland), Scotland 3
  • Christened: 23 Apr 1813, Rosskeen, Ross-shire (Ross and Cromarty), Scotland 4 5

  • Buried: Tain Old Cemetery, Tain, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland 6

Another name for Alexander was Baillie Alexander Wallace of Tain.

  Research Notes:

Baillie Wallace's parents could use further verification. The record of his christening transcribed at https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X1D8-Z4K gives his father's name as "Lachland Wallace." The parish record has "Wallace & Grant" but does not give the mother's name. "Grant" could have been entered in error.

The Lack Family tree at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=alastair&id=I952 has John Wallace of Nonikiln and Catherine Munro as his parents. However, this is incorrect, as their son Alexander was born on 8 March 1826, 13 years later.

  Christening Notes:

Baptismal record, as recorded in the Rosskeen parish, reads "Wallace & Grant [:] Alex. lawfull son to Lachland Wallace BadCall was then Born and Babtised the 23rd Apr 1813"

  Death Notes:

Died at Manse Place, Tain.

  Burial Notes:

His gravestone reads:
"In memory of Margaret Munro Manse Place Tain died 17th January 1882 Aged 52 years also of Alexander Wallace, J.P. merchant in Tain died 1st May 1911 in his <98th> year."

Margaret Munro was Alexander's niece. From www.ambaile.org.uk/newspapers, Inverness Advertiser, Friday, January 27, 1882:
"People>Deaths Munro, Margaret, niece of Alexander Wallace, merchant, at Manse Place, Tain"
