"The family of John Wood (1764-1852) and Abigail Drew were 12 in number: Robert b 1790; William b 1793; Benjamin b 1797; Margaret (twin) b 1797 m Alexander Ross and had John (1818-1824) and Mary (1822-1823) - both children dying young; John b 1800 m Ann Cook - see below; Isabella b 1804 m Peter Papst of Cornwall, also a U.E. family, one that had come from the Schoharie Valley and has descendants in Osgoode; Stephen b 1805; Ann b 1807 m Rudolph Poapst (Papst etc.) and settled early in Osgoode; Robert b 1810 m Catherine (?) and was living in Osgoode in 1842; in 1860 he was living east of Vernon on lot 39 con 8 - family: John William, Henry Benjamin, Joseph, Samuel, Matthias, Sarah Ann, Isabella, Christina, Lucy Fleming[,] Catherine Margaret, Robert, George, William; Sarah b 1814; Benjamin Paul b May 23, 1817.

"In 1830, John Wood b 1800, moved onto land in Osgoode. In 1842 he says he was born in Br Can and there were 10 members in the family. He was living next to Rudolph Paups - brother-in-law and brother Robert Wood. John and Ann had 13 children: Mary Ann, Wm Henry, John Robert Osborne, Jas Alex'r, Catherine Abigail, Margaret, Sarah, Leonard, Albert, Caroline, Isabel, Elizabeth, Benjamin. Catherine Abigail was my grandmother."

This was written by Jessie E. Robertson, a Wood relative who lived in Vernon, Ontario. Date unknown.

• Served: (possibly) with the rank of Ensign in the Cornwall Volunteer Corps, 10 Jan 1838, Cornwall, Stormont, Eastern District (Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry), Upper Canada (Ontario), Canada. 4 Listed as "J. R. Wood in Lunenburgh, or the Old Eastern District, p. 276. That may be a different person.

• Served: (possibly) as Lieutenant in the 3rd Provisional Battalion of the Williamstown Highlanders, 5 Dec 1838, Cornwall, Stormont, Eastern District (Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry), Upper Canada (Ontario), Canada. Listed as "J. R. Wood" in Lunenburgh, or the Old Eastern District, p. 280. That J.R. Wood might be a different person.

• Residence: next to Rudolph Poapst and his brother Robert Wood, 1842, Osgoode Twp (Ottawa), Carleton, Canada West (Ontario), Canada.

• Census: Canada, 1851, Cornwall Twp, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Canada West (Ontario), Canada. 5 John Wood, Male, 48, b. 1803 Upper Canada

• Residence, 1851, Mountain Twp (North Dundas), Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Canada West (Ontario), Canada. Near the town of Harmony.

• Owned: 100 acres in lot 13 of concession 1, 1879, Cornwall, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario, Canada. On the 1879 map as "Jno. Wood." Farm located north of the town of Cornwall, between W. Wood to the north and J. Mattice to the south, and west of the railroad tracks.


John married Ann Cook on 11 Mar 1823 in Cornwall Twp, Stormont, Eastern District (Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry), Upper Canada (Ontario), Canada. (Ann Cook was born about 1805 and died on 16 Jan 1870.)
