"A caution on the Jonas Wood genealogy. There are at least two or three conflicting versions floating around and none of the versions has sources or references to verify who begat whom. Please be cautious before going earlier than Jonas Wood and Neltje (Nellie) Errels. I start at John Wood and Margaret Carter who were both born in England and married 28 Jan 1610 at Plympton, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.

"John Wood has many different fathers (John, Henry and Nicholas appear!) and two or three mothers depending on who you believe."

On Mar. 17, 1655, the town council choose appraisers on his estate (he having died intestate) viz: John Coggeshall, Thomas Cornell, Jr, James Babcock and William Hall. Inventory 130 pounds, viz: Land 45 pounds, In widow hand 50 pounds, In Thomas Wood's hands 20 pounds, Goods and Cattle 15 pounds. The council disposed of estate as follows: To John Wood, land in his present possession, he paying his sister Manchester 8 pounds. To Thomas Wood, the land that was his father's.

John married Margaret Carter on 26 Jan 1611 in St. Saviors, Southwark, London, Middlesex, England.^{1 2} (Margaret Carter was born about 1592 in England and died about 1643 in Masbeth, Long Island, New York, (United States).)
