From The Early History of Elora, Ontario and Vicinity, p. 29:

"Their house was on the side road leading to Bethany Church, and the aged parents were buried on the 'Egerton Fife' farm. They had a family of twelve, of whom Joseph Lasby was one. He lived on that corner farm northeast of the Bethany Church. In 1837 he married Matilda Crowther, and it is from their family that all in this locality by the name of Lasby are descended. Of their family of one girl and eight boys the only ones now living [in 1930] are Mrs. John Seaton, of Altona, Michigan, and Mr. Walter Lasby, of Northfield, Minnesota." 3

• Owned: (probably) Lot 9S in Concession II, 50 acres, 1877, Pilkington Twp, Wellington, Ontario, Canada. 4 Appears on map as "J. Lasby." To the south was S. Patmore. To the East were J.D. Patmore and, to the northeast, H. Patmore. A bit farther east were Wallaces (J.D., Hugh, and D.).

In 1837 he married Matilda Crowther and it is from this family that all in this locality by the name of Lasby are descended. Joseph Lasby died in January, 1878 and Mrs. Lasby died in June of 1854. [the above book excerpt was published in 1930]

(Matilda Crowder was born on 12 Jun 1818 in London, Middlesex, Upper Canada (Ontario), Canada, died on 3 Jun 1854 in <Ponsonby Twp, Wellington>, Canada West (Ontario), Canada 3 and was buried in Ponsonby Pioneer Cemetery, Ponsonby, Nichol Twp, Wellington, Ontario, Canada 5.)
