George Clagett, the 3 time Mayor of Centerbury (1609/1622/1632), was of Canterbury and of the manors of Windhill, in Minster, Isle of Thanet, and Quarington, in Mersham County, Kent. He was a heberdasher, councillor, alderman, chamberlain and three times Mayor of Canterbury (1609, 1622, and 1632). Great uncle of the Rev. Dr. William Clagett, preacher at Gray's Inn, theologian and prolific author; Great uncle of Dr. Nicholas Clagett, archdeacon of Sudbury, theologian and author; Great-great uncle of the Right Rev.
