"SONS OF LIBERTY IN BALTIMORE, 1766"

"In February, 1766, a number of Baltimore citizens met in the 'Lodge Room' of the Mechanical Company of Baltimore and organized what was afterwards known as the 'Sons of Liberty.' The membership increased rapidly and they took upon themselves the duties of maintaining order and protecting property. Subsequently, the order was extended into the counties, and the members enrolled for the defense of the colonies during the Revolutionary War. The following members of the Mechanical Company of Baltimore were members of the Sons of Liberty. (McCreary, George W. The Ancient and Honorable Mechanical Company of Baltimore, pp. 18-19"
