Obituary:
WHITEHALL, Wis. (Special) -- Mrs. Albert Erickson, 67, former matron of Trempealeau County Hospital, died at 12:20 this morning at Whitehall Community Hospital. She had been ill about three months with a heart condition.
The former Winifred Wallace, she was born March 29, 1892, at Ponsonby, Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Wallace.
She moved with her family to Drayton, N.D., in 1808 and was graduated from Drayton High School and the Valley City, N.D., State College.
She taught two years at Calvin, N.D., and two years at Willow City, N.D., before her marriage Aug. 31, 1919, at St. Paul. She taught with her husband four years at Coluymbus, N.D., until they moved in 1924 to Fuller Coulee, Town of Pigeon.
The couple operated a farm there until 1938 when they took over a Whitehall hotel. They returned to the farm in 1944 and were elected superintendent and matron of Trempealeau County Hospital in October 1949.
Mr. Erickson died in October 1958 and Mrs. Erickson continued as matron until her retirement March 1, 1959. She then lived with a daughter in rural Osseo and traveled.
Mrs. Erickson in 1938 received the annual Theodora Youmans award for outstanding farm leadership in Wisconsin. She was the first president of the State Association of Homemakers, now the Home Demonstration Council, and first president of Trempealeau County Homemakers when it was organized about 30 years ago.
Mrs. Erickson is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Obert (Marjorie) lundberg, rural Osseo; three grandsons; two brothers, Hary, Austin, Tex., and Russell, Lakeside, Mont., and two sisters, Mrs. Maude Mayers, Gladstone, Manitoba, Canada, and Florence, Winnipeg, Canada.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pigeon Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pigeon Falls. The Rev. E. B. Christophersen will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at Hagen Funeral Home, Pigeon Falls, Monday afternoon and evening and at the church three hours before services.
