Florence "Stevie" Shriner, age 96, passed away on November 27, at the Pocahontas Manor.
Florence Christine "Stevie" Stevenson was born on May 5, 1913, at Weyauwega, WI. She was the daughter of J. Boyd and Eva May (Whiessiel) Stevenson. Stevie grew up in the Sioux City area and attended high school in Carson and graduated from Bronson High School. She attended several colleges striving to get her teaching degree. She got her two year teaching certificate in Elementary Education and started her teaching career. Through the years, she went to summer school and took night classes to finally receive her BAE from Buena Vista College at Storm Lake in 1975. She taught for over thirty years. On June 25, 1942, Stevie married George W. Shriner at Bronson. The couple made their home in the Paton area. In 1950, they moved to their farm near Palmer. Stevie taught kindergarten, music and second grade for twenty-five years in Palmer. In 1972, they moved into Pocahontas. George died on September 11, 1986, and Stevie entered the Pocahontas Manor in July of 2006.
Stevie was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She loved to go shopping and on bus tours.
Survivors include her daughters: Gloria (Gary) Monkelien of Sioux City and Ginger Ernst of Pocahontas; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, son-in-law, Dave, brothers, Jay and Don and sister, Dorothy.


Florence married George Washington Shriner, son of Grover Sidney Shriner and Hannah Johnson, on 25 Jun 1942 in Bronson, Woodbury, Iowa, United States.
