   Another name for Janet was Jess Wallace.

  Research Notes:

In his testament dated 22 August 1870, John Wallace leaves to his "daughter Jess Wallace or Laing wife of Charles Laing presently residing at Banchory Ternan the sum of Two hundred pounds Sterling." Since his first daughter named Janet is not mentioned in the will, and Jess is not readily found in other sources, I am making the assumption that this daughter went by the name "Jess."

The above assumption is contradicted by the death year 1840 provided by Jessie (Wallace) Ross for Janet daughter of Katherine (Duff) Wallace. There is no Janet with the mother Katherine (Munro) Wallace in Jessie's family tree.


Janet married Charles Laing on 2 Mar 1841 in Rosskeen, Ross-shire (Ross and Cromarty), Scotland.1 (Charles Laing was born about 1820 in <Scotland> and died after 22 Aug 1870 in <Scotland>.)
